A Gift that She Won't Re-gift
A Gift that She Won't Re-gift

It's hard to forget the episode of Seinfeld in which Elaine declares, "You're a re-gifter!" The infamous label-maker that Elaine bought was being passed around Seinfeld's social circle because nobody really wanted it.

Re-gifting poses a problem from many angles. If you're the one re-gifting, you can easily get busted. If you're the recipient, you probably don't want the label-maker, its cousin, or anything like it, either, so you have to figure out what to do with it. If you don't remember who gave the present to you, you could dig it out of your closet and easily give it back to the person who gave it to you!

Another simpler option is available: avoid re-gifting altogether by giving the Elaine in your life something so personal, she won't ever want to give it up. A charm bracelet fits the bill for many reasons.

First, as special and personal as it is, a charm bracelet is perfect for any girl of any age. It crosses all cultures and styles. Secondly, if you choose high-quality finishes, such as sterling silver, gemstones, or 14k gold, no woman in her right mind will want to give up such an investment piece. Precious metals continue to go up in value all the time. And finally, it's an heirloom piece. It is the kind of thing that you clearly pass down from generation to generation.

For the gift-giver, a charm bracelet can be as affordable or lavish as you want it to be. Why? You can either start out the gift with one special charm, so that it's completely affordable, or you can spoil her by giving her a variety of charms, beads, and spacers right away. The choice is entirely your own.

It's funny: everyone owns up to re-gifting at some point. If you've been caught in the act, it's pretty embarrassing. But it's probably forced you to realize that if you're going to buy a gift for someone, you should do it right or not do it at all. With that said, a charm bracelet is something that no woman shoves in the back of her re-gift closet. She will never give away the charms that you so thoughtfully (and lovingly) gave her.

If you know her favorite color or animal, you can get a charm bracelet started with that information alone. If she doesn't have the base yet, you'll need to know the size of her wrist.

Label-makers are our culture's symbol of careless gift-giving. If everyone gave thoughtful gifts, re-gifting could be deleted from our lexicon forever.
