Don't Over Fill Your Cardboard Boxes When Putting Things Into Storage

The majority of people will come to a point at some time where they have too much stuff lying around or just simply want to clear out some space by putting things into storage. This may be a short term solution until you can either get rid of the items or re-use them or it may be for the longer term if the items are sentimental things that you want to keep but no longer use. Whatever it is that you are storing, you should make sure that you arrange things properly and if using cardboard boxes you shouldn't over fill them. If you just ram as much as you can into each box used then there is a good chance that the contents or the box itself will end up getting damaged.

When you are packing things away for storage, it makes sense to take a bit of time doing so. If you rush through everything to try and get it all sorted as quickly as possible then it will only cause problems further down the line. Firstly, you should try to pack any similar things together so that it becomes a lot easier to find a certain item if and when it is needed. You should also try to make sure that any fragile items are protected with bubble wrap or scrunched up newspaper. The last thing you want is to put away an expensive vase and then when you come to use it again find that it has been broken.

In terms of the actual volume that you should be putting into each box, this can depend on what you are packing but you should never put too many items into one box. Even if you are only putting clothes or something that cannot break into storage, if you put too much in then there is a good chance that the box will split and fall apart when you try to pick it up. If you over fill a box that contains anything that could quite easily break then you are only increasing the chances of this happening. Not only could the box split and the fragile items will fall out and possibly break but just the fact that too much stuff is jammed into it could make things break or crack inside.

By taking a little bit more time and care into putting your possessions away for storage, you can help to prevent any unwanted damage occurring by ensuring the cardboard boxes you use are filled to a sensible level.
