Volkswagen Routan MI owners should know their minivan may be affected by a recent recall announcement by Volkswagen that is very similar to a recall MI Auto Times posted about the MI Chrysler drivers of theTown & Country.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your fires.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced Volkswagen is recalling certain model year 2009 Routan minivans manufactured from June 2008 through July 2009, potentially affecting 15,902 Volkswagen Routan owners.
If Volkswagen Routan MI drivers have vehicles manufactured during those dates, they should contact their local dealer for a free inspection or Volkswagen immediately at this number: 1-800-822-8987.
NHTSA reports the affected Volkswagen Routan models may have been built with an improper routed wire harness. A condition could present itself where the lower sliding door hinge bracket makes contact and wears through the wire insulation, touching upon a 12V power feed circuit within the harness, and causing a short circuit within the latch mechanism in the sliding door.
The latch could then overheat and set fire.
Volkswagen plans to inspect the sliding doors for damage and repair or replace if needed, free of charge.
