Nice product!
I live in farming country where the nitrates are so thick in the water your plumbing gets crusted with crystals. My small town seems to think it's best to offset this by adding so much chlorine it smells like a steamy bleach filled laundry when you run the dishwasher. My house has soldered copper plumbing and I was sure dissolved metal in the water wasn't doing us any good either.
I was buying many gallon bottles of drinking water per month and finally decided to give this unit a try. I bought this device and some extra filters. BEST PURCHASE I HAVE MADE AT AMAZON!
Water filters fast and comes out tasting as good as any bottled water I ever bought. Filters last about 40 gallons worth and saves me MUCH money every month. No bleach smell or taste. No murkiness from dissolved nitrates in the water. No metallic taste either. Just clean, crystal clear, great tasting water with no nonsense.
Only gripe I have (and reason this didn't get 5 stars), is that it doesn't remove fluoride from the water. Seriously, it would be nice if PUR was allowed by law to filter out this toxic substance.
worked well for our vacation trip
We have culligan water filter system under kitchen sink and wanted to have clean, filtered water for our vacation without buying bottled water to make vacation as green as possible.
We bought this unit based on reviews by Consumer Digest. This was the only unit at economy price level that made their cut. We brought along 4 stainless steel food grade water bottles to use.
Worked great. We only used 15 gallons our entire vacation and left the unit behind with a relative for their use. Will be buying an extra unit for another relative who is using water distiller (that is taking out all minerals, so probably unhealthy). For the price on amazon, this can't be beat!
Looked at faucet attachment options that some of the other high end water filters had but didn't want to mess with trying to connect it to different faucets in hotels. This unit makes plenty of water for us and we were able to fill our bottles with the water and stash it in frigerators and coolers to make it nice and chilled.
At home (before the trip), we tested this out and put the culligan filtered water through this and the water came out amazingly smooth.
Quality product
I've used the Pur dispenser for about a week now and so far it's worked really well. The water tastes good with almost no mineral taste. A prior review stated that it takes 45 minutes for the water to filter down fully. That's possible as this is a 180 oz container. I wouldn't let this deter you, however, as it seems pretty comparable to Brita's filter rate. The nozzle is built fine for the product and it opens and closes well. I don't imagine any problems with its sturdiness. For those that are concerned about toting it around there are handles on both ends of the dispenser for easy carrying. Also note that it DOES come with one filter. I'm pretty happy with it so far!
