Cheap Fish Oil - Is it damaging You?

High potency fish oil has proved itself over the years to be extremely beneficial to our health. With all the medical research conducted over the years the omega 3 fish oil supplement has proven its positive benefits to a wide range of medical conditions. However with all the positives and the amount of people who willing take fish oil as a daily supplement, many still don't fully understand if the omega 3 they are buying is actually any good. Without researching many people simply go to the store and buy whichever brand is on special off. The problem is they may be buying fish oil which doesn't have the right amount of important nutrients contained to have a positive impact.

The main nutrients which we should be looking for are the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. These nutrients are important as our bodies don't produce them; therefore we need to find other ways to consume them. The quickest and easiest way is through taking high potency fish oil supplements.

In order to ensure we are receiving enough of the EPA and DHA nutrients we need to look carefully at the label. While there is no official recommended dosage, the common view is that you need to consume a combined total of at least 1000 mg of EPA and DHA. Any less than this dosage and the effects will be minimal. Therefore if the label states 400mg EPA and 150mg DHA this is a combined total of 550mg of omega 3 fatty acids, therefore it is recommended that you take at least 2 capsules per day.

While fish oil is seen to have a positive impact on many medical conditions it shouldn't be taken as a way to try and cure serious medical issues. You should always seek advice from your Doctor for any symptoms which concern you and should also seek advice before taking large doses of high potency fish oil.
