She is beautiful, intelligent and very hardworking. She is the pillar of the Kenyan society and the economy too. In the past, about thirty years ago, her role was only in the kitchen. Today this has greatly changed and you will find her occupying big offices and bearing great titles such as MD, Professor, Doctor, CEO and many other prestigious titles. She is not afraid to work twice as hard as a Kenyan male to get to the top of the ladder in a male dominated field. A lot is changing in the Kenyan sphere and a woman is dynamic and ready to play the roles as the moment requires.
She is a mother, a wife and a professional woman. These roles seem to be conflicting but they don't. She knows who to be when in the right place. In the morning, she leaves for work in an expensive power suit and drops the children to school on her way to crossing a multibillion dollar deal. In the evening, she is at home cooking and cleaning after her children and taking care of her husband's needs.
It is not uncommon to find families where the woman is now the bread winner of the house even if the man is around. This especially happens where she earns more than her man or the man is jobless. Some women have decided to go it alone and do not want to have anything to do with a man. They get a child or two and bring them up on their own as they are financially stable. These view marriage as a stumbling block to their career growth. Some even choose not to have children at all so as to concentrate on their career.
