This is a member of the big five community. It is also a cat and one of the most famous ones. It is solitary and can rarely be seen hunting during the day. It only socializes with other leopards during the mating season. During the day, it hides in rocky terrain and on tree branches. At night, it hunts gazelles, impalas, zebras and antelopes for food. It is very strong and can even drag a carcass twice its size to a safe haven on top of a tree. It has a very powerful jaw that it uses to bite the prey by the neck and suffocate it till it dies.
The leopard has different body color depending on its habitat and location. The spots are unique to each individual leopard. The colors vary from reddish brown to cream. The male leopard is heavier and larger than there female counterparts. They do not fight with other predators over prey as any injury to them can mean a slow death through starving. The beautiful savanna grasslands of Kenya are a favorite location for these carnivores. This is because they can get the prey easily.
The cats are nocturnal and there vision is not as strong during the day. They therefore do most of the hunting at night. During the day, they spend the time lazing away. The leopard is one of the shyest of the cats family and can hardly be seen anywhere during the day. It hides in rocky terrains and tree branches the whole day.
