subject: Eating Too Much [print this page] Eating Too Much Eating Too Much
We, the people, here in the United States, have a problem. We have a habit of eating too much. Is it because our moms told us to eat everything on our plates? Is it because we feel guilty for having so much food when there are starving children around the world that we eat everything put in front of us? Whatever the reason, we need to take a look around us and take a hint. Our bodies don't need as much food as we shove into it every day!
Somewhere along the way restaurants starting serving larger and larger portions. There are even restaurants that will give you free food for a year if you can eat their seven pound steak in one sitting! (or something like that!) They are just rewarding you for eating too much! Just because restaurants give you all that food doesn't mean you have to eat all that food. You can even help your budget by saving half of your food for the next day's lunch.
There is something that I wondered about for a long time: if my stomach can eat a certain amount of food, doesn't that mean that I must NEED that amount of food? I finally learned that is not the case. Your stomach is not indicative of how much food you need to eat, but rather how much food you ate yesterday. If you ate so much food yesterday that you felt stuffed, today you are going to be able to eat more because your stomach will be more stretched out than normal. If you ended up eating too much last night, you need to make a point not to eat as much today.
I make it a goal to never get that stuffed, "I ate way too much!" feeling. If you feel full while you are still eating you have already missed the point where you needed to stop. When I see the pounds start to come back on, I try to eat less than I think I need and stop. If I get hungry in 2 hours instead of four, then I am actually helping my metabolism speed up by eating more small meals each day instead of eating too much in one meal, which slows the metabolism down.

We need to grab a hold of this bad habit of eating too much and stop listening to your stomach! By the time your stomach communicates to you, it's too late! So, we all need to call our moms and say "Sorry!" Because we aren't going to be eating everything on our plates any more!
