Parga, a jewel of Greece
Parga, a jewel of Greece

Parga is a charming town situated in the province of Epirus northwest to Greece. The town is surrounded with green hills and crystal clear waters. It is a beautiful and romantic place to spend your holidays on the beach.Parga is one of the most favorite destination for travellers. This is in fact the most popular place of destination in Epirus.

Parga is said to be one of the jewels in Greece, a city full of life, but also with a considerable history that just takes your breath away.

The architecture of Parga with the narrow streets is a graphic Greek place.A stroll through the streets of Parga unravels an "island flavor" with of tourist shops and taverns lined up on both sides and the carefree tourists that constantly stroll up and down the narrow corridors.

The amazing castle that offers you the best view of the whole city, the small and lively shops that welcome you, the taverns and beach bars that offer you cool beverages, the best swim of your life followed by a doze on that soft delicate sand these are all part of Parga.

It may get busy in summer, but you can always hotfoot it over the headland to Valtos. This crescent of sand is big, beautiful and brimming with tavernas, watersports and sunbeds. Parga beaches are on the relatively undeveloped Epirus coast and are served by the airport at Preveza which is around 50 miles away from most Parga beach resorts.

Almost everywhere you go, cosy tavernas and romantic bars offer up intimate suppers to the soundtrack of the sea.

The most important thing that you should know about food in Parga is that's 99% Greek. Taverns,'kafeneia' - traditional cafes and 'ouzeri are all over the city.

Although many choose to vacation in Parga itself, the surrounding areas seem to be popular as well. Within a short driving just about 25 minutes from Parga lies the ancient ruins of the Nekromanteio of Acheron that is worth visiting and if you start to drive along the coast of Preveza, the small cities that offer you a quite, peaceful view never end.

When you go south through the Preveza coast the road takes you through Loutsa, Vrahos. (Vrahos is a popular site among teenagers and young adults because their beaches have lively nightlife and parties with many bars), Kanali, Monolithi (this place is voted among the top 10 favorite beaches in Greece) and through the ancient city of Necropolis and the port of Preveza.

Parga, without any questions is the most striking resort on the mainland Greece with its overwhelming, red-roofed village houses surrounding the scenic harbor. It is a quiet and relaxing place. This place is for those who wants to relax, not to people who want to get loose and do crazy things

It is something about Parga that makes you want to come back again and again, and somehow you never grow tired of admiring this wonderful place.
