China: Asia's Biggest Trading Country

For the past years (and still counting), China has become the biggest trading country in Asia. China offers a lot of opportunities for getting wholesale goods at cheaper prices and having it sold at the best prices in Western countries.

Making Contacts in Asia

In business, searching for the right contacts is very difficult. Others go out of their way to find contacts in Asia. But not all people have the budget to do so. So, when you don't have one, directories can be good alternatives.

Generally, generic products are greatly found in Asia. Asian wholesalers may promote "branded" or "genuine" products but the truth is, they are all imitations or copies. But if you prefer to sell authentic designer brands, you should use USA suppliers or those from your home country. Through this, it's easier to check on its authenticity.

Once, you've found your contacts, it is time to build a relationship with your chosen contact. You can email them or chat through MSN or other instant messengers. Remember, building rapport with wholesaler suppliers is just as important as finding the right goods for your import business.

Ask for samples and make a small order. Usually, you may ask new contacts to send samples for free and you take care of the shipping charges as your counterpart. That way, both of you are just incurring little costs and you are also sharing the risks with them. Once you've already found your products, make a deal so you can get the lowest possible price and your targeted manufacturing time that you prefer. Once things are settled, you let the company write a purchase contract and have them send it through email or fax. When you receive it, read between the lines and sign it. To have it back to them in less than an hour, you can just scan the document and email it back to them.

Payment Methods

China suppliers have a long history in the import business. Now, most Chinese suppliers are now embracing more secured payments like PayPal and other major credit cards. Although, some are still adhering to non-secured payments like Western Union and wire transfers, you must try your best to avoid paying through these methods. They offer you no security at all.

In case, you've selected a supplier who's only accepting Western Union or wire transfers, then ensure that you get what you have paid for, especially when you are ordering large shipments. You can pay for a third party to inspect your shipment. Hopefully, you are certain that you got the right quantity that you ordered. But quality is not a guarantee. When you have found new stocks, you should open an account with DHL so you can obtain sample orders. Once the account is opened, just inform the factory about the account. Then, they'll be sending you samples and the shipping charges will be billed to your account.

When you're ordering bulky merchandise, you can resort to a shipping company in your local area. Compare the services and rates. Take note that ocean freight is way cheaper than air.
