Bluetooth Headsets - 5 Things to Consider Before You Buy

Bluetooth headsets aren't just for executives on the go anymore. The average Joe can benefit from having one of these inexpensive and easy to use units. Sometimes it's even a necessity. No matter what your reason for wanting or needing a Bluetooth headset, picking the right unit you'll be happy with involves a few minutes of thought. Here are 5 things you should consider before you buy.

Is it comfortable

There are three main styles of Bluetooth headsets; over the ear, in the ear, and a combination of both. Some are held into place with a loop around the ear, others depend on an ear bud inside your ear to keep them in place, and the most flexibility comes from units that use both options. Before you take anyone's advice on which style is better or more comfortable, try them yourself. That is the only way to be sure.

Is it expensive

Cost is an issue, but since Bluetooth is relatively inexpensive you won't have to skimp on features to save a few bucks. Most of the top rated headsets can be purchased for around $100. Smart shoppers may do even better.

Is it a good fit for your needs

The most obvious things you need to know are how it feels to wear, how functional it is for your needs, and is it your style. The Bluetooth headset you will be happy with is the one that functions well for your needs. Figure out what you're needs are, why you would buy one, then find a unit that gives you what you need in an easy-to-use, comfortable package.

Is it easy to use

Obviously the more features you have the more there is to remember about using it. All I need to know (just the basics) is how to turn it on and off, how to take a call, how to hang up the call, how to make a call, how to adjust the volume, and how to check the battery and recharge it. It couldn't hurt to also check the reviews, with a grain of salt. Reviews are an effective way to judge a product's value as long as you remember that not all reviews are objective. The more positive reviews the better, and you'll want to look at "expert" reviews as well as actually users reviews.

What features does it offer

You'll want to look at the following features based on how important they are to you:

Sound quality, wind/noise canceling technology, transmission range, talk time, standby battery life, how many devices can you pair it with, warranty period, extra ear buds, recharging options, voice dialing, last number redial, 3-way calling, and a mute button. You can also get headsets that read your text messages to you.

In closing, your needs are what really matter here, so make sure you know why you want a Bluetooth headset and what you want to do with it before you buy. Look at comfort, cost, is it a good fit, is it easy to use, and what features does it offer to narrow down the list of units and find one you'll be happy with.
