Actually, the main use of software is to help us in automating our tasks. Like for example, in order to create, edit, copy, paste, and print a document, we need specialized software that is designed to do such tasks. Another example is your computer. When you purchased your computer, it comes with software which we call an "operating system". A computer is useless if there is no software which will enable us to control it. That is how software is really important.
Another example wherein we can see the importance of software is your mobile phone. Cell phones are just like computers, they need software so that they can be controlled by us. The software is responsible when we hear it ring so that we may be able to answer calls. The software is also responsible when we receive text messages.
When it comes to computers, we can not use the printer right away after we have plugged it in. It still needs software so that it may be able to communicate with the computer well to print a document. The software is what we call the driver. The driver lets the two devices communicate properly with each other so that they may be able to perform the given task.
Software is everywhere where there is computer. Or to put it into a simpler statement, if there is automation, there surely is software. Even if you can not see the software on a screen, it does not mean that there is no software involved. Just with a simple device, software is needed. For a device to function, it needs a firmware. The firmware is actually software which commands the device to do various processes.
