The present is so different from the past! It was only about sixty in the past when home automation was considered a futuristic dream for busy housewives who had excessive work in their hands with too little time to accomplish them. A lot of women were sold on the thought of having home equipment that would make their tasks much easier to accomplish without sacrificing the quality of their work.
Children of the time wished for the teleportation devices and the rocket automobiles that showed up in cinema at the time. What child did not have his eyes glued to the telly when the American imports Batman and Robin came on? Or the Fantastic Four? The props in these television shows were considered ultra modern at that time and children hoped that sooner or later, things could be just as they were on television!
Today, home automation may not be considered common but it is a reality albeit a very expensive one. It's true that the kitchen and the rest of the home are packed with myriad home appliances yet the truly automated house is just around the corner.
At the moment, there are homes which are completely run by remote device just by home computers, or with some, a simple laptop. These ingenious devices can control the lights, the interior temperature, as well as the sounds inside the home.
Today, women can now just enter their homes after work with the porch lights on, the coffee brewing, the garden watered and the blinds pulled down . The temperature inside the home if programmed will mean a definite decrease in energy consumption.
The usual appliances like the slow cooker and refrigerator still run, while everything else unneeded have their power cut at the source. Home security like IP CCTVs may also be remotely controlled by people who like to keep their homes and families safe when they're from home. Home theaters can go on and off at the appointed time.
The lights would only go on if there is motion and shut off if there's none. Even pets who are scared of the dark can relax for the lights will go on in areas they prowl in.
What could be better for a career woman who comes home knowing that the stew she had prepared earlier is cooked and ready to eat. She would have no need of even lifting a finger to do so.
With the control, the temperature in the home can be controlled to the minimum that will quickly adjust if there is motion detected. However, the computer system could deal with that end quite easily. All it takes is an easy SMS message from the cell phone that will alert the computer to accomplish its work.
Now, if only there were a computer with arns and legs to do the cleanup after eating...
