subject: The Best File Hosting Services [print this page] The Best File Hosting Services The Best File Hosting Services
This post is poised to answer the question:"What is the best file hosting service?"
The answer is: all and none.
You should utilize a combination of all of them, based upon what files are hosted with what service. Also, you should not purchase a premium membership to any file hosting service until you have a large amount of files that you wish to download. I will illustrate what I do when I want to download a large amount of software below.

For the sake of example, lets say I want to download the following files:
Adobe Creative Suite CS5, Microsoft Office 2011 Mac (not yet released), and Apple Logic Pro.
I would then go to my forum of choice, or search on Google (which is described in the Google Search Tricks post), and attempt to find all the software that I need. When searching for the software, I usually create a text document on my desktop, aptly named "software download links", and copy/paste the links to the software that I need to use in one convenient location. It is important to try and find files from all the same hosting service. Either search for files that are hosted solely with rapidshare, megaupload, or one of the other options available.
After gathering all the links, then you could buy a temporary premium membership to the hosting service in order to speed up the download process (a 5-10$ temporary membership is worth the hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars you are saving on not purchasing the full price of the software).
The most popular file hosting services are:
Rapidshare.com (one of the largest file hosting services; a pain to use if you don't have a premium membership)
Megaupload.com (very similar to rapidshare.com, however not quite as popular with software files on the forums, as far as I am aware.
Mediafire.com (one of my favorite because you don't need to purchase a premium membership, but usually only small size files are stored here; very commonly used with music files on music blogs)
Hotfile.com (quickly becoming one of the most used file hosting services due to its ease of use, affordability, and size limits; the majority of software you find currently will probably be hosted here)
Uploading.com, Easyshare.com, Zshare.com , Filefactory.com (smaller uploading sites that aren't used as commonly as the above)
