Wireless Home Security System Installation

So, you've decided to install a wireless home security system? I know it seems confusing, but it's actually much simpler than you think. The more wireless components you have, the easier it will be. There are some things that will need to be hard wired, but if you're not comfortable doing that, then just call an electrician. For such a small job; it shouldn't cost much. Ready to get started?

First of all, make sure that you have everything. Think of this like assembling a piece of furniture: you want everything together, and then you just assemble it. It's just going to slow you down if you have to make frequent trips to the hardware store, so it's better to double check now. Depending on how complex your wireless home security system is, you should have a base unit, sensors for the doors and windows, and maybe even some wireless security cameras. The first step is to figure out where you want to put your base unit.

Most people mount the base unit right by their front door, but it's really up to you and what's going to be most convenient. Keep in mind however, that if you need to hardwire anything it should be in a place that isn't too difficult to get wires to. If you have an electrician it doesn't really matter; but if you're relying on your own skills this is something to keep in mind. Once you have picked a spot for base unit, you can move on to putting in all of the sensors.

The sensors are the most important part of a wireless home security system, simply because they are how you know if an intruder is coming in. You want to attach them on all the doors and windows, and then work backwards to the base unit, hard wiring if you need to, or making sure that they're in range if you aren 100% wireless. It's easiest to do the doors first, test them, and then do the windows and test those.

Once those are done, you can move on to installing your wireless security cameras if you have them, or if you don't you can work on programming your alarm on an automated schedule. Different units work differently, but many can be programmed to turn on around bedtime, which is one less thing that you have to worry about. Now you just have to enjoy your new security system and peace of mind!
