6 Golf Driving Tips Hit More Fairways

I absolutely love stepping up to the first tee and pulling out my driver. There is nothing more enjoyable than watching that first drive of the round sore off the tee and down the middle of the fairway. I am going to go over 6 golf driving tips that helped me and I am sure they will help you.

For many golfers, teeing off on the first tee is like pulling teeth without Novocain. Having an audience watching you just adds to the anxiety. Some golfers have given up on hitting a driver all together. It doesn't have to be that way.

Let me share with you the free golf driving tips that helped me turn my driver into an asset in my bag.

1.) Develop a Routine Now I know this is one of those free golf driving tips you hear all the time, but have you taken the time to do it? You need to develop a natural repeatable routine that you will use in preparation for your shot. Don't just go through the motion; get focused on what you want to happen when you take your swing. See it in your mind's eye.

2.) Line the Line When you tee up your golf ball, align the writing on your ball along that target line. I take it one step further. I carry an indelible marker in my bag so I can draw a straight line on my ball. I use this line to align my drives and my putts.

3.) See Your Shot From Behind the Ball Once you have teed you ball up, step behind your ball 6 or 8 feet. While standing behind the ball along the path that you want the ball to travel, do two things.

While you are surveying your shot, determine what type of shot you need to play. Do you need to play a draw, fade or a straight shot?

a. First, find a spot about 6 inches in front of your ball that is along that target line. Use this spot to help you when you are ready to address the ball.

b. Second, take time to see your shot. This is so important! If you can see your shot in your mind, then your mind will know what to do when it's time to execute.

There are times when I am alone and daydreaming that I am playing a round of golf in my head. I like to do this before I am heading out to play a round. I close my eyes and walk through the first nine holes.

I try and play the course as I want to play it when I get there. The more often I do this, the more likely I am to play well. I have learned that when I have rushed to the golf course and haven't allowed my mind to prepare, I tend to struggle.

4.) Proper Ball Position The driver is the longest club in your bag. When you are hitting a driver your golf ball should be positioned just inside the instep of your front foot.

If the ball is to far forward in your stance you are probably going to hit the ball left, too far back in your stance and the ball is sure to go right. If you are not sure have one of your playing partner's check where the ball is in your stance.

5.) Relax This is another one of those no brainer free golf driving tips, but it is necessary to say. I bring this up from experience. I didn't realize that my body was a little tenser when I had my driver in my hands. You have to allow your body to relax as you take your swing. If you tense up during your swing, your muscles will tighten and that will change the way you swing the golf club. There is no doubt that this is the one thing that will affect your swing more than anything.

6.) Controlled Backswing This goes right along with relaxing. The tendency for many golfers is to rush the takeaway. You have to have a controlled backswing. If anything, your backswing should be a bit slower with your driver than it is with other clubs.

Keep your backswing from going too far. If you backswing is going past parallel your body is going to shift and your swing is going to change. Try stopping your backswing a few degrees short of parallel, this will give you more control and you won't sacrifice distance.

With a controlled takeaway, your body will have the time to coil up like a spring ready to unleash true power when you start your forward motion. Just make sure you don't rush the swing and you will see better results almost immediately.

Give these free golf driving tips a try and watch your drives find the fairway more often. As with anything in life, if you don't practice, you are not going to improve.

Take some time to work on these free golf driving tips at the driving range. Get comfortable with how the changes feel before you take them to the golf course.
