The Mid Atlantic Coast is an excellent destination for summer beach vacations. From Cape May to the Outer Banks, there is a destination for every budget.
Cape May is a favorite destination for New York and New Jersey residents. This coastal town features an incredible number of beautifully restored motels, bed and breakfasts and inns. The resort also has a famous boardwalk, filled with attractions for people of ages. The city has a huge selection of waterfront motels, restaurants, gift shops and the famous boardwalk Ocean City also offers a range of festivals, expos and events throughout the beach going season.
Chincoteague Island is perhaps the smallest of Virginia's resorts but is one of the best vacation values on the eastern seaboard. The family-oriented island is home of the world famous wild Chincoteague ponies. This quaint village was once an important commercial fishing port and still supports a commercial fleet as well as a variety of fishing charters, nature tours, sunset cruises and other boat charters. Just moments away is Assateague Island which is home to one of the nation's top wildlife refuges as well as a national seashore, with excellent beaches.
Virginia Beach is another outstanding value in summer beach resorts. This waterfront city has an amazing climate, often experiencing over 200 days of sun each year. The water is warmer than Maryland beaches and its selection of motels and other accommodations are known for their affordability and friendly atmosphere. Virginia Beach has one of the busiest schedules of events and festivals of any Atlantic beach resort. With multiple pavilions along its boardwalk, there is almost never a warm season weekend when vacationers won't find at least one if not several attractions along the beach front.
The Outer Banks of North Carolina is another excellent value in beach resorts. This string of beachfront communities offer family activities including sunbathing, swimming, fishing, watersports and other fun. The Outer Banks region is famous for its seafood restaurants, featuring fresh local fish, shrimp, crabs and other delicacies. Outer Banks communities include Bodie Island Carova Beach, Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, Wanchese, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras and Ocracoke.
