Bet On Yourself

And Beat Those Who Are Betting Against You

by Michael D. Hume, M.S.

I'll say it again: there are two kinds of people out there. Some take charge and take initiative - they bet on themselves. The others wait for someone else to take care of them. When they bet, they bet against themselves, and against everyone else.

So who's betting against you?

In the United States, the government is betting against you. Generally, the ruling Democrats are betting you can't take care of yourself, you won't do the right thing, and you don't have a clue about the coming global financial storm.

Bet on yourself: vote for candidates who know what's coming and are committed to reversing course, and cleaning up the mess in Washington. Vote for measures that lower taxes and restrain government size and spending. Vote to revitalize the most generous, prosperous free-market private sector ever conceived, and to remind the government that it works for you, not the other way around. Educate yourself about how to be a winner in the new global economy.

It's possible your employer is betting against you. They're cutting your hours, or your salary, or your benefits - they're betting you can't go get a better job.

Bet on yourself: start a business on the side, and grow it masterfully until you no longer need that employer. These days, you can start an online enterprise for a surprisingly low investment of money, time, and energy. You just need to believe in yourself.

Many people, from some of your fat friends to the people who want to sell you junk food, are betting against your health. They're betting you can't run that half-marathon, or lose that weight, or stick to that diet.

Bet on yourself. Eat right, go jogging, get your sleep and your daily two liters of water, and take your vitamins. Become a physical specimen who doesn't need to rely on encouragement, but instead encourages others. Become a healthy person who doesn't need to rely on the myth of quality government health care!

If you're an optimistic, hard-working, values-driven person, you will succeed. There will be obstacles, and there will be naysayers. They are there to take your bet. That's OK - you have something they don't have. You have the ability to bet on yourself and win.
