All You Need To Know About The Different Hair Extension Methods

Nowadays, hair extensions are really popular amongst celebrities and the public alike as a way of lengthening, thickening or even adding slices of colour to your locks. You really need to do your homework before going ahead with extensions as the wrong technique or hair type could leave you with unflattering extensions and even damage your own hair if you're not careful. That being said, once you find the right method for you, you will be sure to be thrilled with the results and wonder how you ever got on before having extensions!

You should be ensure that you are aware of the different types and quality of the hair available and now you need to consider which option for attaching the extensions is best for you. There are so many different techniques out there and they all have their fair share of pros and cons. Choosing the right method is essential to getting a great final look that lasts.

There are three main options to choose from: Weaves or wefts' as they are sometimes known, Human Single hair pieces and Synthetic Single hair pieces. If you go for a weave or a weft, then first you will have small sections of your hair braided close to the scalp in rows. These braids form a way of attaching wefts of hair to the head. You can have either human or synthetic hair attached depending on the result you are looking for. You need to be aware that this method can often look less natural than other techniques but can be ideal for those with thick hair as the braid will cover the attachment point that may be seen on hair that is thinner.

No chemicals are used on the hair so there is no damage caused there but the weaves can be quite uncomfortable to wear as they can feel heavy and put a lot of undue strain on the scalp and the natural hair. This excess strain can cause the hair to become weak and even fall out in extreme cases. However, the weaves of hair can be reused making this an inexpensive method of attaching hair extensions.

Human Single hair pieces are single strips of hair that are attached to the natural hair to give the most natural look possible. The result is natural-looking as the hair behaves and hangs in the same as your own. The hair is bonded to your own using a variety of different bonding methods including chemicals adhesives and heat. The main drawback to this method is that it tends to be very expensive and the hair normally cannot be reused. Natural hair extensions can be matched exactly to your own hair colour and texture so no-one need ever know that it is not your own hair.

This method tends to look the most natural but it comes at a price. You can expect to pay anything from between 200 to 800 or more for these extensions. You can style your hair exactly as you would your own but human hair does take a lot of maintenance to keep it looking healthy.

Synthetic Single Hair Pieces are the same as the afore mentioned method but with lower quality hair. The hair will be matched to the texture of your own hair and as synthetic hair is man-made it comes in a variety of different colours and textures. Synthetic hair is also a lot lighter than natural hair so it doesn't put the same sort of strain on the hair. However, it is not recommended to have a full head of synthetic hair extensions as they can be hard to style and care for. The hair can also look quite fake but this method is a good option for those looking to change up their look temporarily and inexpensively.

As with most things, you need to do your research in order to get the best possible results, if you do this you are sure to love your new look!
