Unless you've spent the last few weeks on another planet you'll have noticed that aviator jackets are big this season. Nearly every designer and high street chain has their own take on the aviator meaning you can easily pick one up whatever your budget. One of the reasons the aviator has become so popular is because it's a very flexible piece of outerwear which can be worn in a wide variety of ways. Here are just some of the different ways you can rock the aviator look.
Vintage
The aviator jacket goes back to some of the very first pilots which means the jacket lends itself very well to a vintage style. Amelia Earhart was one of the first ladies to work the aviator look so hers is a good style to look to for inspiration. Team your aviator jacket with cream trousers either in a jodhpur or straight legged style like Earhart. Soft shirts and blouses look good underneath an aviator jacket as do thin cream jumpers and cardigans. To finish off the vintage Amelia Earhart look wear your aviator jacket with a scarf tied around either the neck or head.
Edgy
Depending on which style of aviator jacket you go for, it can share a lot of similar features with a biker jacket. This means that you can rock up the aviator look to make it seem a bit more punk and edgy. Wear an aviator jacket with black skinny jeans and an oversized t-shirt then team it with biker boots or chunky ankle boots. Aviator jackets look best when left open so for the edgy look buy some thick long chains that can hang down in between the lapels of the jacket. The aviator can also be rocked up with large chunky belts and an oversized handbag with lots of zips and buckles.
Contrast
You can contrast the slightly masculine style of the aviator jacket with super feminine tailoring. A lightweight floral summer dress looks great underneath an aviator, as does a soft floral skirt. To stop the aviator jacket from looking too out of place make sure you wear some masculine footwear like boots or brogues with a lighter floral outfit as these will add weight to the look. Thick tights or knee high socks also work well with this contrast look as they are girly and feminine yet help to ground the thick aviator jacket.
Country
The countryside look is everywhere this A/W and an aviator jacket works well with this rural style. Team the jacket with a tweed flat or baker boy cap and it will instantly feel town meets country. Riding and knee high boots as well as brown shoes coordinate brilliantly with the aviator as do cream chords or a tweed skirt. To go all out with a country style you could even wear wellington boots with your aviator jacket.
