My previous Motorola SB4200 modem is at least 10 years and carries the signal the Internet was fast enough to watch a video or short clips. It turned out that my area, Comcast has upgraded their systems to DOCSIS 3.0. So if you slower Internet connection speed at home or at work, check with your ISP to see what you're using DOCSIS. It might be time to upgrade your modem, too.
After reading some review on some modems, I decided to go with this device, SB6120. Supports the latest technologies - DOCSIS 3.0 - is the fastest signal provider for general use now. However, it also works with the DOCSIS 2.0 when it's all in your area. It 'got good reviews from everyone, and actually a bit' cheaper than many other models with a lower rating.
I had my unit a month, so far so good. I bought it from [...]. Not very fond of their return policy 14 days, though. But they had the best price I found at that time. So now if something goes wrong with it, I'll have to deal directly with Motorola.

I no longer get connection drops and get the actual advertised download speed. It allows several concurrent movie streams without stutter, and movie streaming no longer affects console gaming.
The setup took about 30 minutes on the phone with the cable company.
The cable company, Comcast, needs to thank Motorola because if it wasn't for this modem I would have switched providers; I see absolutely no value-add on that dinosaur.
I only wish I had gotten this modem sooner. I now have the plan option of 50MBit/sec. Nice...
I purchased this as an upgrade to the Motorola modem supplied by the local cable company when I dropped DSL and moved to 12-mb service. This modem seems to deliver, works fine with my Linksys N wireless router, and it will have paid for itself within 18 months because the cable provider charges $5 per month to rent their modem.
The Motorola SB6120 SURFboard Extreme Modem is fantastic. Installation was easy. No issues have been encountered during the first month of ownership. It appears to be reliable and durable with great download speeds.
Speedy and solid replacement for stock cable modems
The Motorola replacement cable modem is a plug-and-play replacement for the Comcast modem that you are renting from the company. I was paying $5 a month to rent the modem over the past four years and realized that Comcast was pulling and AT&T by giving the cheapest modem possible and billing many times the price of the modem over the years.
Installation was so simple that I didn't even look at the quick setup sheet. Unplug the Comcast modem one cable at a time and plug the Motorola in and restart your wireless or reboot your computer if it's directly wired (or renew your IP config in Windows). The Motorola is DOCSIS 3.0, which is almost twice as fast as the older DOCSIS 2.0. Ignore the acronym, just know that you get faster upload and download speeds with version 3.
If you've subscribed to Comcast more than a year ago and you're going to stick with Comcast for at least another year, you probably have the old standard and will like the increased speed. Just know that it will take over a year to break even on the rental cost, but at least the increased speed will be nice. It's a piece of cake to install, and the hardest part is manually driving to Comcast to turn in the old modem so they stop billing you for rental fees.
