Sex & the City's Fashion in High Definition

Within the last two weeks, an updated trailer for the "Sex & the City 2" movie was just released. The movie doesn't premiere until the end of May (similar to the first one in 2008), but that doesn't mean the hype isn't already there. When HBO first premiered its most successful show back in 1998, no one could anticipate the frenzy it would cause by fashionistas around the world. Currently in syndication on many satellite TV channels, let's take a look at what makes the show so wildly popular and why the sequel film will likely be another "Sex & the City" blockbuster hit.

Unless you've been living under a rock, the show is centered on the lives of a group of four best girlfriends living in the Big Apple, or New York City. Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) have been through thick and thin together marriages, divorces, babies, one night stands and even cancer making their love and friendship for one another stronger than anything any male companion could offer. Aside from the one-liners and beautiful city backdrop, what makes this show obviously so "fabulous" as Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw would say is the fashion. Flip on your high definition TV and prepare to get sucked into a world that almost no one can afford in real life.

The girls', Carrie in particular, love for fashion is the only thing that tops their love for one another. Costume designer Patricia Field has been consistently quoted in magazines and television interviews saying that Carrie views her clothes as works of art, like an artist. She mixes vintage with modern, the good with the bad and creates one of the most unique wardrobes on both satellite TV premium channels and basic cable. From Marc Jacobs to Vera Wang to their Manolo Blahnik heels the girls are always dressed to the nines, even if just for a walk in Central Park.

Since the show ended its six season run in February of 2004, it has been followed up by a successful movie that chronicled the lives of the ladies since the series ended and through 2008 the year Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) finally tied the knot. The movie is constantly played in HD on various premium movie channels and like the TV series, fashion played a huge role in the movie. Consider the fashion a girl's version of a high-speed action thriller with violence and intricate special effects. Seeing the intricacies of Carrie's wardrobe in high definition is any fashion lover's paradise.

What's in store for the four girls of "Sex & the City" in the sequel to the first successful movie? Directors and key players like Sarah Jessica Parker have remained tight-lipped although a few clues are given away in the trailer, like cameos from Carrie's old boyfriend, Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), Samantha's old boyfriend Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis) and Miley Cyrus.
