Fear is one of the most powerful, if not THE most powerful of negative emotions that will corrupt our success journey. We can literally psych ourselves out with fear and never achieve anything. Fear will control us if don't learn to keep it under control.
Fear is a instinct we are born with, and that's supposed to be a good thing. We come wired with two fear mechanisms. One makes us act very quickly without thinking. The other is designed to make us think before we act.
We are wired for an era that no longer exists. A long, long time ago we were living amongst our own predators. If a big hairy beast came after us, we would either have to fight or take flight.
Rarely do we encounter situations where we need to "fight or flight" anymore, but we are still wired with these adrenalin glands just waiting to fire. Sometimes people just need to experience this rush. They do things like bungee jumping, sky diving, extreme sports, taking drugs, being promiscuous.
For most people who don't get up to such dangerous acts, there's always a low level background fear hovering in the background. It compensates for the "act before thinking" fear.
In extreme cases, people are afraid to go out in public. Some have literally never left their house in years because of an irrational fear.
Most people don't suffer these extremes, but the low level fear hovering in the background can stop people from taking action and stir other negative emotions such as anxiety, depression, a lack of self confidence and worth.
We must learn to not allow this fear to control our lives. If we don't, we will NEVER have the courage to achieve our dreams. It's this fear that causes us to remain in our comfort zones. And you know exactly where that road leads.
The first step to controlling your fear is becoming aware of it and when it rears its ugly head. Just being aware that you're feeling fear will diminish its intensity significantly. For example, I still get nervous when I'm calling prospects for the first time, but as soon as I become conscious of it, my anxiety level drops.
One of the best lessons I've learned about controlling fear is this: If you're feeling fear, it's almost certain that thing or event that you're fearing is NOT happening.
One of the best acronyms I've heard for fear is:
False
Expectations
Appearing
Real
You can take control of fear by reducing the level of negativity you encounter everyday. You can do this straight away by switching off the news, which is full of negative stories.
Remind yourself of the reason why you want to be successful in your home business. Visualise yourself in to moment your dreams become real.
