With costs for holidaying abroad soaring higher than the attitude of the average jumbo jet, many people are looking closer to home when evaluating how to spend their weeks away from work.
Of course, it's a common assumption that the average brit would prefer to travel far away to some distant country than to enjoy the cultural delights, traditional offerings and green surroundings offered within Europe. If you are a UK resident planning your next trip away, or if you are planning to visit the UK and the rest of Europe but haven't decided how to get about, buying or hiring a motorhome may well be the answer.
Motorhomes and campervans offer holidaymakers the convenience of being able to move about the country freely and with ease. You have the luxury of standard modern conveniences such as you would find in a hotel, but you also have both the flexibility to move about, to park in beautiful open spaces, or to travel to remote areas where no other accommodation is available. Don't like the view out of your window? Not a problem jump in the driver's seat and turn your vehicle to face the other direction!
Storing, towing and positioning caravans can be strenuous and difficult. Campervans and motorhomes involve far less work yet retain all of the benefits. Motorhomes are also more flexible; when you want to go somewhere, simply jump in and drive off! Caravan owners find towing very much a chore, and manoeuvrability can be limited. Caravan owners have to worry about weight ratios, bow waves, how securely the caravan has been hitched to the car... Motorhomes have none of these problems.
If the cost of purchasing a motorhome may deter a potential buyer, renting a motorhome is another possibility. When you rent a motorhome, you only pay when you decide to go away, rather than paying a massive initial outlay. If you were to purchase a motorhome, you would find the value depreciates with age and with mileage, plus you would need to find somewhere to keep it. Not everyone likes to have an enormous vehicle parked outside their house. Renting is simpler: simply hire a motorhome when you want it. An additional benefit is that you will probably always be holidaying in the latest model.
If you don't want to buy, you may need to find somewhere specialising in motorhome hire. UK residents and visitors will many suitable vendors, including in London and around Heathrow.
Within the United Kingdom, many campsites and parks exist especially for you to park up and stay in. Some must be contacted in advance, whilst others allow you simply to park up and pay for however many nights you plan to stay.
