When it comes to choosing the right camera, the main thought is too determine what you want in a camera. There are many points to think about. What do you need the camera for? Is it just for simple photo snapping? Or do you want to take more advanced photographs, and experiment with photographic features? This will all depend on your experience with cameras, if you're new to purchasing a camera, you may want to keep it simple and buy a simple point and shoot camera. But if you are experienced, you may want to get more of an advanced camera.
Resolution is often one of the main selling points of a camera. This information will be the first thing you see displayed when buying a camera. Digital camera resolution is expressed in pixels, which is the millions of dots that make up a picture. The minimum pixels I would suggest to buy are 2. Obviously the higher the megapixels the better quality photographs you will have.
You may also want to think about zoom. Zoom is a common feature found on most cameras. It is extremely useful, and I would say a necessity when having a camera. There are 2 types of zoom, digital zoom and optical zoom. Digital zoom, just simply enlarges each pixel electronically. Problems that occur with this are the image can often appear fuzzy; whereas optical zoom has a physical lens magnification of the image you are photographing, so I would shop for the optical zoom instead.
Lightweight digital cameras are far more transportable and more cost efficient, but in turn they have less zoom power, less resolution and fewer features. The larger more advanced cameras have more zoom power, more resolution and a large variety of features. They are however very bulky, and are much more expensive.
Choosing a camera can be a difficult decision, but it's all about what you will be using the camera for; whether it's just for photo snapping every now and again, or if you really want to start to get into the art of photography.
