Mercedes Benz have been producing a compact executive vehicle to compete with the BMW 3 series and Audi A4, up to 1993 it was the Mercedes 190 but since then the Mercedes C Class has taken over. Up until 1997 it was the "Baby Benz", 1997 saw the introduction of the Mercedes A Class, since then Mercedes have released a B class too.
The very first W202 C-Class was produced in June 1993, and the second generation W203 C-Class rolled off the assembly line in July 2000. The third generation W204 C-Class was launched in 2007.
The C-Class platform has been used for several coupe models, including the CLC-Class and its predecessor, the C-Class Sport coupe as well as the E-class Coupe and its predecessor, the CLK-Class.
The 2007 C Class is very spacious and like all Mercedes is great to drive, it comes with an option of seven engines. In the petrol choices you have the supercharged C180 with 154bhp, the direct injection C250 CGI with 201bhp and the 268bhp V6 C320.
The diesel line up is very impressive, there are four to choose from and they consist of a 134bhp C200 CDI, 168bhp C220 CDI, 201bhp C250 CDI and a 221bhp C350 CDI. The C220 CDI provides the best performance VS economy figures and sales so far made it the popular choice amongst consumers too.
Mercs are not known for being cheap, a used Mercedes Benz in Norfolk will set you back at least 7,000 for a 6 year old supercharged C180. Diesels tend to cost 500 on top of the price of a petrol, that is if you can get hold of one!
