Audi has been producing the Audi Allroad Quattro since 1999, it is a crossover styled estate executive based on the Audi A6. In 2006 Audi released the next Allroad Quattro; the naming of the model has now changed to Audi A6 Allroad.
The new Audi A6 Allroad in Exeter comes with Audi's Adaptive air suspension and Quattro four wheel drive system. It also has Audi's new 6-speed tiptronic transmission system which converts high-torque engine power into both sporty performance and operating convenience, with crisp, fast gear changes.
The A6 Allroad is available with four engine choices, 2 petrol and 2 diesels. The diesel line up is very impressive the 183bhp 2.7 litre TDI and the 236bhp 3.0 litre TDI provide great pulling power and low end torque. The 3.2 litre petrol may not have so much low end grunt or quick get off but is very refined and smooth. The petrol 4.2 litre V8 is just quick; it provides acceleration anywhere in the rev ranges making overtaking a doddle.
With the permanent 4 wheel drive system in place the A6 Allroad provides great traction, the adaptive air suspension means greater ground clearance can be achieved for light off road excursions.
The Audi A6 Allroad is by no means a full on 4x4 or SUV and it doesn't pretend to be, it is just a more practical version of the A6 Avant for those who do not wish or need to have a large 4x4. The next model up from the A6 Allroad in 4x4 terms would be the Q5 followed by the Q7, both with full off road capabilities.
