Silk Ties - Bring A Little Colour Into Your Day

As a woman working in the corporate arena I often struggled with that old chestnut....what shall I wear today. And often envied my male colleagues for the simplicity of their wardrobe choices. Would it be the double breasted suit or the smart charcoal single breasted?

Male executives have an easier time selecting their clothes for the day, and for the fashion phobics, the lazy and the cash strapped, life is simple. But for a man who likes fashion, dressing in the business arena can be a little...well...boring.

However with a little effort, boring can be transformed into fun and fashionable. Dressing in something different each day, need not mean a wardrobe full of designer suits. For the budget conscious, two or three great suits can be a terrific investment and can be teamed up with an array of amazing silk ties and crisp shirts. All it takes to rejuvenate a suit is a new silk tie. A much cheaper alternative to purchasing a brand new suit.

In my opinion silk ties are the way to go. They hang better than polyester and age well, as long as they are treated with care. Pure silk ties don't dry clean particularly well and should not be washed. Stains can often be removed with a little spot remover and a clean soft cloth. Grease spots can be treated with a light application of talcum powder to absorb the grease and left overnight. The talc - and hopefully the stain - can then be removed gently with a soft cloth. And in the worst case scenario, what a great excuse to buy a new tie!

Skinny ties are back in vogue and look fabulous in solid colours. Traditional blade ties are available in an endless range of colours and patterns. Be a little bold.

And for something a little different why not try a bow tie - nothing looks nicer than a good quality bow tie for a formal occasion, and even in the office a fancy bow tie can be fun from time to time. But avoid novelty ties at all costs.

As well as wearing great silk ties, another way to liven up your wardrobe is to go for a tie with french cuffs and a selection of stylish cufflinks. When men's jewellery is frowned upon in the coroporate environment, cufflinks add a little sparkle to your day.
