The XK is a grand tourer produced by Jaguar since 1996; it has been Jaguar's flagship model ever since, it replaced the Jaguar XJS and like its predecessor is available as a coupe or convertible. The XK8 was the first 8 cylinder vehicle produced by Jaguar, when the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine was introduced.
The XK was produced to showcase Jaguar's ability to produce a high performance vehicle, and with the XK's figures they have definitely achieved this. The XK comes with two engine choices a 5.0 litre V8 producing 380bhp and a 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged producing over 500bhp.
Both these engines are mated to a six speed automatic gearbox; the XK can do 0-60mph in just 4.6 seconds and 50-70mph in 1.9 seconds. These figures do not however explain the brute force the XK delivers when you put your foot down.
The XK rides like a grand tourer, even on the optional 19- or 20-inch wheels, but it changes direction and grips the road like a sports car. As expected the ride is firm but nicely damped, with the optional active control the suspension provides superb control.
Refinement levels in the XK are of very high standards as all Jaguars are; the XK's V8 gurgles and growls throughout the rev range, at high speeds the engine settles down and provides a nice note to the ears.
The XK is not cheap and it was not the intention of Jaguar to make it so. You get what you pay for. Even the entry level 5.0 V8 well set you back 62,500, the supercharged XKR will set you back 85,500. For a used Jaguar XK in Poole I would recommend Westover Group's Jaguar dealer in Poole.
