One of the most popular fields in Internet marketing over the last five years has definitely been what I like to call the "guru industry". This is a group of people who teach other people how to market on the Internet.
There are dozens and maybe even hundreds of these "professionals" out there who sell their own home study courses, books, manuals, DVDs, and boot camp events around the country that you can attend in person.
I'm a big fan of education, I believe that everybody should learn as much as they can about whatever they've chosen as their profession, such as Internet marketing. You should always go out of your way to learn as much as possible about your own profession in an ongoing continuing sort of way.
The problem is, the world would have you believe that in order to do that you need to spend tens of thousands of dollars buying home study courses from those professionals I mentioned above. The inflated prices of most of these courses is insane. I've seen several go from $1000-$2000 and all the way up to $10,000-$20,000 all for beginners courses.
Now I will admit, I've purchased many of these over the years... not so much to learn something new, most of the time I didn't learn much of anything but I have more experience than your average beginner. Rather, I buy them just to keep up with the industry that I have chosen as my profession.
But if you are a brand new beginner to Internet marketing, should you spend thousands of dollars on these courses? And if not what exactly should you do? It's a very good question that I'm going to answer today.
I always give the exact same advice whenever someone asks me that question. My answer is NO, you should not spend thousands of dollars on home study courses or fancy conventions.
What should you do? Find a popular Internet marketing message board such as the Warriors forum and simply start reading. Spend a week or two or more, for as many hours a day as you can before your eyes tear up reading every single post you can find all the way through.
If you spent your entire life reading, you'd never read all the posts that are posted there. Some of them are nonsense, some of them are worth gold, just keep reading for as long as you can.
You'll slowly start to learn a thing or two. After you feel like you've got a solid footing, try out some of the marketing strategies that you will have picked up. As you fail, and you will, go back to the forum and ask questions. People will help you, usually for free, especially if you are serious about it and honestly asking for help.
It doesn't cost a penny to read this forum and the information you will pick up is just as detailed as those thousand dollar guru programs, more so in many cases. Whatever aspect of Internet marketing that you're interested in, you can find a thread related to it there.
Just start reading. That's all there is to it. Now pay me $2,000 for that advice ;-) Just kidding.
