subject: Getting Started With R4DS Software [print this page]

Initially, the Nintendo DS was only intended to be a portable gaming console. In time though, development of r4ds technology meant it could also be used as a multi-media device. With the presence of relevant r4ds software, a person could access wireless communication. One wouldn't only be able to play games on it, but watch movies, play music and view images or text files on a DS as well It is a very appealing prospect to have all your media stored in just one device. To get started, you first need to download r4ds software. The r4ds installation kit purchased earlier will indicate the correct site you should visit. The software has to be downloaded and saved to your computer first. It's important to remember where you saved it so that you don't waste time looking for it . Next, the SD card that came with the kit has to be formatted. This is carried out in the same manner you would format any other form of storage with the FAT32 file system. Once this is done, you need to transfer the r4ds software downloaded earlier onto the card. This is a simple operation of dragging and dropping the files from the computer to the newly-formatted SD card. This is done so that the card will be recognized by the Nintendo system and be able to function on it. With the download r4ds software safely copied to the SD card, you can now drag and drop any and all other media you wish to access on the Nintendo. This includes, but is not limited to, image, video, music and text files. The last step to get your r4ds card up and running is to load it on the console. The card has to be inserted into the r4ds cartridge before that itself is loaded into slot-1 on the console. A successful installation will be indicated by a "Loading" message that displays upon start-up. If it doesn't appear, don't panic; you didn't break anything. Repeat the r4ds software installation on the card once more. If the files are present on the card but the "Loading" message still doesn't appear, you need to get in touch with someone who has more experience than yourself to troubleshoot the problem.
