Aquashield, a relatively small but rapidly growing company has signed a distributorship agreement with Aquashield Australia Pty. Ltd.
This distribution agreement allows the Australian firm to market its state of the art technology throughout Australia and New Zealand.
We were able to interview the owner, Patrick Ward who had this to say. "We have worked very hard to realize the level of growth that we now have achieved and could not have done it without the hard work and efforts of our staff and our business team. I feel confident that our Australian friends will add a crucial function to our overall mission statement that we could not have otherwise achieved".
One source close with Aquashield said that the company will be able to target this overseas market more efficiently and aggressively once the proper steps have been taken to accommodate this increasing level of growth.
In 2007 researchers at Aquashield began working on an integrated bio-electric safety system in the hopes of decreasing hazards for people that were at risk of shark attack in the open water. During this research it was found that Sharks are literally wired for hunting. The finned predators of the high seas are equipped with a special sense called electroreception that allows them to hone in on prey with deadly accuracy. Electroreception simply means the ability to detect electrical currents
The source of sharks' electroreception lies around their snouts and lower jaws. If you look closely at a shark's face, you'll see tiny dots around its mouth. These dots are called Ampullae of Lorenzini which facilitates electroreception.
The Aquashield deterrent creates a field that is undesirable to sharks and stingrays causing the animal to change direction.
