The Wildebeest Migration Thrill
The Wildebeest Migration Thrill

This is a spectacle you would not want to miss for anything. It happens in the Masaai Mara which is a national park in Kenya Africa. It has become so famous that is has now been recorded as the eighth world wonder. The wildebeest are herbivorous animals that live mainly in Africa. Most of them are found in Tanzania and Kenya. During the months of June to September, these animals weighing approximately 130kgs try to cross the Mara River to Kenya. As they cross the river in their thousands, hundreds drown in the process while many are captured by crocodiles in the river.

The wild beast migration thrill is one that attracts many tourists in to the country. Many documentaries capture the moment vividly and most media houses air the migration live all over the world. Lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas can be seen on the migration path trying to prey on the young and sick. The wildebeests have learned to cooperate and work together as a team to ensure their safety. The young are squeezed in the middle with the mature animals surrounding them as they make the move. This increases there chance of survival.

The Kenya government is trying to make this moment last forever by making sure that the Mara ecosystem is not interfered with. In recent times, massive forestation activities have been launched to try and balance the climate of the drought threatened area. Human encroachment into the Mara has totally been banned with those who have farms in the forest being moved to other places. The President of the State personally has been making sure that this great revenue earner is preserved even for future generations.
