A Look At The New HTC Desire HD

The HTC Desire HD is the successor to the firms hugely successful Desire model, which has become one of the most popular phones available.

This new model takes proceedings to the next level by including High Definition facilities, as well as a super sized high quality screen. The first thing that jumps to your attention when first looking at the HTC Desire HD is the size of the unit. It is fair to say that this handset is larger than your average phone, but with good reason. The main reason is that the size is needed to accommodate the superb 4.3 inch screen on the unit. As well as having its obvious advantage for viewing media that is captured on the phone, it is also a huge benefit for everyday use, with text looking clear and websites appearing larger thus easier to navigate. The screen offers a superb resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, and this quality combined with the excellent 16 million colours displayed gives an unrivalled standard of picture. The technology used in the construction of the screen is the latest S-LCD technology combined with a very responsive capacitive display panel. An accelerometer chip provides the essential auto rotate functions. Looks wise the HD looks claassy. The chassis is cast from a single piece of aluminium, and thanks to this the unit not only looks eye catching but is also incredibly durable. Looking at the overall dimensions the phone weighs 164 grammes and measures 123 x 68 x 11.8mm.

The HTC Desire HD offers users a great range of multimedia facilities. Despite offering only 1.5GB of internal memory, the handset features a vital micro SD card slot that allows users to add additional memory up to 32GB. Perhaps the area where such capacity will be most useful is when shooting video footage on the phone. The unit can capture film at High Definition quality of 720P resolution, with the addition of an LED light making shooting in dark conditions a much easier task. Still photographs can be captured in a better than average resolution of 8 million pixels. Once again an LED flash is a useful features, and the phone features autofocus and face detection. Music files are handled with ease, with all of the usual file formats supported as well as rarer types such as amr and m4a. A handy RDS FM tuner gives radio functionality and a 3.5mm headphone jack allows a wide range of headphones to be used. The HTC Desire HD looks destined to follow in the footsteps of the original Desire. You can easily forgive the phones size when you look at the functionality it offers, with the superb screen, excellent operating system and great media features really standing out.

The HTC Desire HD and the Samsung Omnia 7 are available now.
