Why Is Condom Percentage Use Lower Among People Of Higher Age?

It may come as a surprise, but the statistic of young people using condoms for intercourse is much greater than the number of people aged 40 and over. It goes without saying that the publicity efforts pertaining to the reasons for using condoms is mostly aimed at college-aged or younger. A grant of around $400 million was spread amongst a total of 28 programs to raise the rate of condom use among teenagers. It is factors like this that suggests that too much of the campaign funds are aimed at the youth, and perhaps it is time that some of this money should be used to educate the elder generation. Trojan (the American condom manufacturer) revealed that somewhere between 70 and 80 percent of teens say they use condoms for intercourse. This number is much lower among older people. The LA times backed these thoughts up, saying that teenagers are not as careless as people assume when it comes to practicing safer sex. There are many guesses as to why this is happening, it is not assumed that the elder population are confused on the topic as there is global coverage of the hazards of unprotected sex. Pair this with the fact that many parents are inclined to learn the issues to better equip their children, and you will understand why people do not think that the absence of education is the reason why there is a low condom use rate in the over 40's. On the other hand, it should never be assumed that adults are knowledgeable on the topic of safe sex. It is a well known fact that discussions pertaining to sex was less informational decades ago, therefore, unless they have researched it on their own, than that individual's level of expertise on a matter will only equal what they have previously been taught. Only recently has sexual education been more in-depth. In regards to all the findings, the verdict has to be noticed that a lack of education has to be one of the major causes of lower condom use in adults around the age of 40. Adults from the ages of 21-29 show better use figures than those of 40 or over. This coincides with the time when sex education undoubtedly meant actual hard information, rather than avoidance of the harsher realities, which all young people need to know in order to choose the right actions. Sex education today is without a doubt much more in-depth than in the past, and it might be time for the elder people to learn the troubling issues on HIV and AIDS.
