What to Do If Your HP Laptop Power Adapter Is Not Working?

Like all electronics, power adapters eventually stop working due to use or aging. Below are several things to check.

1. The Laptop

Your adapter might not be functioning properly because of a loose connection with the laptop. Make sure that all connectors are solid.

2. The Adapter

Check the cables, constant bending can expose wires within the cable causing it to stop working properly.

Check the "brick"as well they usually have an LED which lights up while powering the notebook. If the light is off, your laptop is not getting power.

Examine the DC-jack, the plug that inserts into the laptop should fit snugly. If you can get power when its connected "at just the right angle" then the jack may be faulty.

3. The Outlet

Check the outlet. This might be an obvious one but the problem may be no power.

If you've checked all the above, a new adapter is probably needed. Brand new adapters are really expensive. Aftermarket adapters are usually lower quality and work intermittently at best. A terrific alternative is to purchase new, open box, these are returned items, often with a warranty at a fraction of the price.

If you're purchasing a new open box item it's better to go with a reputable seller, that way you have some recourse in the event there is a problem. Most resellers will give you a warranty. Additionally, some will give you a money back guarantee minus a restocking fee. However, before you buy from any organization get some references and check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure they have a good track record
