Top 10 Things To Help You Heal After Breast Augmentation

Congratulations! You've just had breast augmentation and are on your way to recovery. Soon, you'll be able to flaunt your new assets, but first, you have to heal!

While the rate of healing depends on your body and lifestyle, you can really help and even accelerate the process by doing the following 10 things:

1. Drink water, and plenty of it. Anesthesia and other drugs were administered to you during surgery and shortly afterward. Your body will be able to heal faster if you flush the body of these drugs, and the most effective way you can do this is to drink lots of fluids. If you don't like water, try to drink any fluids you can handle (nonalcoholic, of course!). Straws can make drinking easier.

2. Eat nutritious, bland foods, particularly in the days after breast augmentation surgery. The complete nutrients and vitamins acquired through food can really help your body in this difficult time, so try to eat food that's packed full of them, such as vegetables, fruit and proteins. Try to avoid fast, processed food, which can be harder to digest and not be as healthy.

3. Take it easy. You've just serious trauma done to your body, which is why you've got to relax and take it easy. Exerting yourself can be dangerous and even cause irreparable damage, so try not to do any rigorous physical activity until your doctor gives you the green light. Leisurely walking and gentle massaging exercises can keep the blood circulating, but only do these if advised.

4. Avoid medications that weren't prescribed or okayed by your doctor. This is for your safety, since some meds may not be compatible with others taken during this time.

5. Keep in contact with your surgeon or doctor as you heal. Visit your surgeon for post operative checkups religiously and report anything odd immediately, whatever it may be.

6. Keep dressings clean and dry, since incisions can be easily infected.

7. Do not smoke for at least a week after surgery. This is vital, since smoking can seriously harm recovery.

8. Do not use a sauna, hot tub or swim for at least a month to reduce the risk of infection.

9. Do not expose your scar to the sun, since it can cause irritation at first. After the scar has healed, sun exposure can also darken it and make it more noticeable.

10. Follow all of your surgeon's post operative instructions. This will improve the healing process following breast augmentation surgery.
