A recent survey conducted on 1,000 adults has recently revealed that Americans now favor the quality of American cars over that of Asian cars. The results were 38% in favor of American cars as the best made vehicles. This news is especially important at this time as the American automakers are coming out of a tough economic downturn where many had to borrow money from the American government. During this time many automakers purged themselves of underperforming brands and vehicles.
Previously, customers held Toyota to be the most superior automaker when talking about quality and reliability, but recent scandals have proven that even Toyota is not perfect. Most recently Toyota has recalled the Lexus GX 460 because of a high risk of rollovers. Supposedly the problem lies in bad software for the cars Vehicle Stability Control System. The biggest problem that the automaker has been plagued with is the accusation of a flawed sticky gas pedal which could potentially affect millions of vehicles. The recent chain of events could possibly be to blame for the decline of consumer faith in Toyotas automobiles.
While Toyotas unfortunate events have opened up a window of opportunity for American automakers, they must still work hard to maintain a positive reputation in the eyes of American and worldwide consumers. Ford above all other American automakers looks to be in a good position to continue its growing success. The automaker has recently re-invented its Ford Taurus line and has also designed a new Police Interceptor for America's law enforcement. In the near future Ford looks to become a serious problem for the likes of Asian manufacturers such as Toyota and Honda.
