Lucerne is a popular destination in Switzerland. Located on the south shores of Lake Geneva, you can drive or ride one of the trains on the major railway lines near the Italian border. Its about an hour or so from either Bern or Zurich and makes an ideal day trip, and can also offer plenty to see and do if you stay a few days.

Lucernes most famous attraction is the Chapel Bridge which was erected in 1333. This medieval bridge is just one of many that straddle the Reuss River, and can be recognized by its water tower with the octagon roof. A fire in 1993 almost destroyed the bridge, and fire damage can still be seen on the 17th century pictorial panels under the eaves.

Lake Lucerne is a beautiful lake near the center of Switzerland, home to swans and other wildlife. Gardens along the lakeside are a wonderful place to enjoy a picnic and spend time with loved ones.
