In her heyday, my mom would never dream of going out of the house without "putting on her face." She did have her favorite "foundation," and applied it as if it were indeed a sturdy foundation which she would build upon!I would watch as she then searched through palattes of colors for eyes and cheeks. She had compartments full of lipsticks, bottom up, so she could see the names and knew by memory what every color looked like on her, with lip liners to match every tube. She'd paint on her brows with a feathery lite, artists touch, with one of the 25 brown pencils she had. Apparently, I am now at my own "heyday" and although I try to avoid leaving the house without makup, I hardly "put on a face!"
I never quite understood or adopted her painstaking routine, and with our crazy schedules, who has time for it? No matter what age you are, chances are you're simplifying your life. And that inclues your beauty regimen. Have a coverup or base, (new words for "foundation") to match your skintone. A few basic shades for eyes; browns, subtle blues, soft greens, & pale pinks, plums and greys, and your lids are covered. Eye liner? Wet a cotton swab, take the darker of your eye shadow color and apply. Instant liner that won't run. No steady hand required. Just blend with the other end of the swab. Then swipe on some mascara. Cosmetic companies would have you believe there are 50 different pinks and 60 different bronzes. In my drawer, there's a pink, a plum, and a bronze. Not sure why I need anything else. And same goes for lipsticks or glosses. A pink, red, plum and bronze tone, and you're covered. It's great for your every day look, which lets face it, is most days!
