Aeroplane Liquid Levy

For nine years, we have all had to be really careful about the amount of liquids we carry n our hand luggage, with 100 millilitres being the maximum we can carry without having to check our bag or dispose of our liquids. Its frustrating when you see people openly flouting the laws and not getting reprimanded, yet we always manage to come up against the checker who won't let us take our bottle through.

But new scanners tested at Albuquerque this month have been produced to eventually let us pass through the gates with bottled water and all the shampoo we desire. The device can quickly scan liquids to see if they are containing explosives, and it is about the size of a small fridge, which uses magnetic resonance to test the contents. The machine is so clever that it can detect whether a liquid is red wine, white wine of soda water.

Currently it is just at demonstration stage, and if a few years from development to be implemented in airports, as for one reason, the transport security administration has not yet partnered with a manufacturer to produce.

What we're doing is really looking for the real dangers, like liquid homemade explosives," says Stephen Surko, program manager of the Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency. "We're just real excited at the progress we're making."

If you are planning on travelling this year, make sure you have valid Travel Insurance for your trip, and are only travelling with the required amount of liquid.
