As car owners, the majority of us do not know a lot about the mechanics of our vehicles, and therefore put a lot of trust into the garages we take our vehicles to. But a damning study has found evidence that nine in ten garages are failing to find basic problems and yet are still charging for repairs to our cars.
Which secretly tested sixty two garages, and fifty four, which is a worrying statistic of nearly ninety percent, missed one of the potentially dangerous faults. Five of the garages surveyed fixed none of the problems that the cars posed.
The faults that the cars showed were a nearly flat spare tyre. A blown reverse light, low pressure in one of the rear tyres and minimum brake fluid.
Most of the garages (sixty eight percent) that were secretly studies did not inflate the spare tyre, which could pose a problem further down the line when the driver came to replace a punctured tyre.
As an honesty test on the garages, the cars were filled with screen wash before they went in for their service, to see if the garages would try to charge for it anyway. Thirty nine percent of them did.
Its worrying that we put our trust in these garages to help us out with our cars, and that we put our trust in them to keep it honest and only charge us for what we actually need.
