For Bob:

A man I never understood,

But I always loved

Marty Fine, he could have been a doctor, a lawyer, a businessman, he chose to become a gangster. People make money, they don't steal it, his mother cried, he didn't hear her. He wanted women, cars, his pockets bulging with money that didn't belong to him. He was afraid that he would be killed by a machine-gun in the army, an enemy would pull the trigger, the street had more danger. The last voice he heard was his mother's; he died in her arms, another life taken before it began, Marty Fine.

DIE RICH

JEALOUSY WILL EAT YOU ALIVE IT DOESN'T LEAVE ANYTHING

Anise Foster is frightened. She's afraid of losing everything that she's worked so hard for, someone else walking away with her life. Nella Davis could be that someone, she is the understudy. Another woman is preparing herself to go from second to first. Anise must not let that happen. She has to kill the understudy.

Buck Logan comes out of nowhere. Anise searches the seedy bars of downtown Los Angeles, the other side of Hollywood, until she finds him. He's a rodeo rider, he says in his slow southern drawl. He can bring anything down with his magic rope. How about a woman, Anise teases Buck. The cowboy narrows his eyes at the middle-aged actress, knowing that the truth is often said in jest. This is one of those times, and Buck Logan isn't going to gallop away from the challenge. He will kill the understudy, he wants to, DIE RICH

BURIED IN DIRT

It's nine thirty on Monday morning, the stock market opens for another week of trading. Marsha Mintz has decided to divorce Adam, she can't trust him, he's betrayed her. She hasn't caught him with another woman, not yet, but she knows there is someone else. He's never home, always on the phone with the door closed when he is, late at night, early in the morning. They don't share a marriage, she wants out, before it's too late. The opening bell was an hour ago, Adam has lost several hundred thousand dollars of someone's money, he'll have to cover his tracks, bury them in the dirt.
