Rajasthan

The desert state of India specialises in print. Vibrant and colourful textiles which have mirrored work all over it are a speciality of this place.

This is also a place to buy semi precious stones. Places like Jaipur have streets filled with small shops selling these stones in various jewellery pieces.

Jaipur is also famous of pottery, paintings, brass items, traditional footwear (jooti) for men/women and paper puppets.

Karnataka

This southern land is famous for its sandalwood industry. Be it incense of carvings of the sweet smelling wood, Karnataka (Mysore) is a place you can take away lots of stuff from.

Uttar Pradesh

This northern state manufactures brass and copper items. Marble is available in abundant here. Carvings on marbles, souvenirs of Taj Mahal are available in Agra.

Kanpur in UP, is well known for leather based items. SO if you want to buy purses, bags, wallets, etc you know where to go and shop.

Varanasi in UP is famous of silk sarees.

Goa

Goa, the tourist paradise is well known for its local beer also known as feni'. It is available in cashew' and coconut' flavours and is packed in nice bottles for you to take away home.

Goa is also known for its flea market which sells some real cool hippie clothes.

Maharastra

If you're looking for foot wear, this is the place you can find yourself some good bargains. Leather chappals, Kolhapuris are available in places like Pune and Kolhapur. Mumbai has to offer some of the best street side footwear and clothing deals.

Aurangabad is famous for its Himroo weaves on shawlsm bedspreads and sarees.

West Bengal

This eastern land specialises in terracotta ware like bowls, wall hangings and figurines.

This is also the place to buy musicals instruments.

Darjeeling is famous for its aromatic tea and yak milk based sweets.

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal is well known for woollen shawls and caps which are manufacture in the valley of Kullu. There is a Tibetan influence in places like Mcleod Ganj and Dharamsala.

Tibetan stuff like thangkas, flags, beads, music, rugs and silver jewellery are all easily available in these markets.

Kashmir

Well known for its carpets, Kashmir boasts of carpets made from Persian techniques.

You can also buy leather boots, shoes, carved wooden furniture, paper articles and tables.

Punjab

Phulkari work is very famous here. Clothes, shawls, dupattas worked up in phulkari are really beautiful and worth having as part of your wardrobe.

Other things Punjab is famous for are the bed spreads, wall hangings and embroidery.
