While there is certainly nothing wrong with buying themed furniture, it would be much better if you decided that it was time to replace their furniture as they get older rather than having no choice because they have outgrown it. At least when you buy a standard single bed, it should be more than big enough to last well into their teenage years and only need a replacement mattress perhaps once in its life. You might not think that kids need to have a very supportive mattress. Your family doctor or chiropractor would tell you the opposite is true. You may not want to spend a fortune on your kids' bedroom furniture, but you will be doing them a huge favor if you put the money into a good mattress to go with a nice solid pine frame that you can paint every time their tastes change.
