There are ways to market your MLM business that will absolutely sabotage your chance of making any money in your business. In this article, you will be exposed to three common mistakes made by people either using old school marketing techniques or by people who are just new to network marketing altogether.
Rookie Mistake #1 - Using Company Specific Landing Pages: One of the biggest mistakes you can make when trying to market your MLM business is to use one of your company's websites. Those websites always focus on talking about the company, the company's opportunity, and the company's history and management team. Do you see a theme here? These sites focus totally on the company -- not you -- and do nothing to position you as a leading authority in your niche market.
You can see why using one of these sites will NOT help you market your MLM business. There is simply no advantage for someone to sign up and purchase through you (versus someone else) when you use a company website.
If you plan on using the Internet to assist you in growing your business -- which you should -- then you want to build a website that positions and brands YOU (not your company). When talking about how to market your MLM business, this is a critical concept to get. Your website should not talk about your company or the products you're promoting.
To successfully market your MLM business using your website, you should talk about yourself and your expertise as it relates to your specific niche. People want to know that they're buying from an expert and not from a rookie. Think about it this way. Say you went to Best Buy prepared to buy a new television, and the guy who came to help you said "Hi, my name is Bob and it's my first day, but I'll try my best to help you." If you had technical questions you needed answered before you bought a television, then Bob would be of little (if any) help in making the choice of which television to buy.
Rookie Mistake #2 - Making A List Of Your Warm Market To Get Leads: Another rookie mistake that most new network marketers make that you don't want to make in trying to market your MLM business is make and rely on your warm market as your once and only lead source. Most new network marketers are told to make their "list of 100" friends, family and acquaintances to whom to market your MLM business.
This is a fundamentally flawed business building decision (and not how you want to market your MLM business) for several reasons. If you truly believe that getting two who get two who get two (and so on) is how you get rich in an MLM business, then you got involved under a false pretense of something that never works in the real world. The question that remains unanswered at the core of this concept is this: What do you do when you run out of people in your warm market? What do you do then? How do you plan on market your MLM business and build a business from a longevity standpoint using that system?
If one plans to build their business with just friends and family as their leads, it can be done . . . but it will likely take you several years to make it happen. Considering the options available to you with the Internet and such, you could make this happen in several months (instead of several years). So why would you ever choose to market your MLM business that way?
Rookie Mistake #3 - Not Going Outside Your Warm Market To Generate Leads: Not marketing your MLM business by looking for prospects outside the realm of your warm market is another big mistake. By using the Internet to get prospects, you are putting yourself in the position to build relationships with prospects from across the entire country and the world. This provides you the foundation of a long-term effective business model, for the simple reason that this list will never run out. You can always drive more traffic to your website and get more leads.
The idea is to get a steady, consistent stream of new prospects going into your marketing funnel. This is the lifeline of your business. This is how you market your MLM business, and avoid becoming a casualty of your MLM business.
