Have you ever heard that wonderful musical sound of windchimes that blow in the wind in the evening? Have you ever though that you might be able to create one on your own that would sing beautifully whenever the breeze came along? Well, you can. Here is one way to make winchimes at home with items you already have. Here is a list of items that you will need:
one metal coat hanger
light weight but sturdy string
four light weight and inexpensive spoons
one light weight rock that is long in shape
rubber bands
hot glue gun or craft glue
electrical tape or masking tape
To begin with you need to straighten out the metal coat hanger being careful not to poke yourself. This will be the base for your windchimes. Next you will cut the coat hanger in half. Then bend one of the pieces of hanger into a full circle and using the tape to hold the ends together. Use the other piece of hanger to run through the middle of the circle attaching each end with tape. Using the rock (or another similar object different then the spoons) attach a piece of string to it at one end using the rubber bands or glue. Then attach the other end of the string to the piece of hanger you just put the middle of the circle. This should hang about four inches down in the middle of the windchimes.
Not to make the chimes you need to cut the string into pieces about 6 inches long. Attach one piece of string to each spoon. You can attach them using the rubber bands, the hot glue gun or simply tying them on. Attach the other end of the string pieces around the metal circle making sure that they hang so that they will clank into the center rock (or other like object).
In order to hang it evenly you will need to attach three pieces of string to the metal hanger that is the circle. Now connect all three pieces above the windchimes and tie them together. You can now use an old circle from a key ring to make a loop to hang the windchimes from.
The windchimes are now ready for you to decorate if you wish. You can hide the tape and glue with paint if you wish or leave it as is. Remember to limit the amount of paint you use on the spoons because too much paint will change the sound of the windchimes.
