During a May 2010 Consumer Reports random survey of 1,700 people who owned at least one vehicle; 71% of the respondents said that Honda had the highest in customer commitment and 73% in quality commitment. The survey shows that Honda outshines 7 other major auto brands in terms of how the company treats its customers and the high standards of its product quality.
Honda has a historical reputation for producing good vehicles that consistently perform well. Additionally, Honda vehicle owners have always enjoyed higher gas mileage making them a top choice for many consumers.
The survey was conducted in the wake of the Toyota safety issues and while Toyota ranked fifth out of 7 major brands; its previous reputation as being a reliable vehicle has taken an enormous blow.
Significantly trailing behind Toyota was Hyundai (at 44% customer commitment) followed by Chrysler (at 36% customer commitment). The issue with Hyundai's image was that older models did not perform as well in safety and road tests; although the newer models have proved otherwise. At the bottom of the list was Chrysler, most likely due to financial hardships, dealership closings and a lack of new products on the market.
