Error message (system error 5 has occurred or Access is denied) appears on screen because UAC (User Account Control) on Windows Vista does not grant administrative rights to local users automatically.
To fix this issue, all you need to do is to change the value of LocalAccounttokenFilterPolicy registry key on Windows Vista computer to ensure that full credentials are passed between Vista and Windows XP. To do this you have to perform following easy steps.
a) Click on Start button on the task bar of your desktop.
b) Go to Run or Start Search.
c) Type "regedit" without quotes. If you are in Start Search box then find regedit.exe to registry editor.
d) Supply here administrator password to proceed or select Continue button to confirm your decision.
e) In Registry Console, click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
f) Expand SOFTWAREMicrosoft
g) Next WindowsCurrentVersion
h) Click on Policies and then Click on System
Make sure that your path is (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCur rentVersionPoliciesSystem)
i) If you cannot see LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy in this registry key, then perform following steps to add its value.
1) Click on Edit menue and then New and select DWORD Value command.
2) Here type "LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy" and Click on OK.
3) Now Right-Click on LocalAccountTokenPolicy key you just added and then select Modify.
4)Type 1 in Value Data and click on OK.
5) Exit from registry editor and reboot your machine.
Now you should be able to access your mapped drive on Vista operating system from Windows XP computer.
