Summer 2010 see the launch of the Samsung Wave, a handset so packed with features that it is very difficult not to get excited about it.
The screen technology featured in the Samsung Wave is better than any other handset currently available. Measuring 3.3", the capacitive touchscreen supports multi touch and is capable of displaying over 16 million colours. But perhaps the most impressive thing about the display is the cutting edge technology that is used in its construction. Rather than TFT or OMLED, this phone boasts Super AMOLED technology. Not only does this result in an incredibly slimline profile, but viewing angles on the screen are increased and the performance in sunlight is far superior to its counterparts. Colours are also much deeper and vivid. These points coupled with the excellent 480 x 800 resolution truly make it THE screen to have on any handset. The chassis of the Wave measures 118 x 56 x 10.9mm, perhaps as small as Samsung dare go without sacrificing screen size, and all thing considered the overall look is sleek and very pleasing on the eye. Weight wise the 116 grammes that the unit weighs is surprisingly light, and the phone sits comfortably in the hand. To maintain the minimal look, just three buttons are present on the front of the phone, the menu, call and end call buttons.
The Samsung Wave utilises the new Bada operating system. For programmers this is a very user friendly system supporting a variety of programming codes. To the user this means that Samsungs own app store can expect to see a variety of great apps available from a whole host of different programmers. The excellent TouchWiz user interface is the part that the consumer actually sees and uses, and this is very impressive as well. Home screens are no longer limited to three and icons can be arranged where you want. There is even a handy feature to list your icons in the order that they are most frequently used, saving you having to swipe through several screens to find your most popular icons. A 1GHZ processor ensures that every thing zips along at a good pace, with delays between applications minimal. A screen of the quality of this one needs good video playback to really show it off, and the Wave does not disappoint there, handling high definition footage with easy. The phone also supports a variety of file formats. photographs are captured with a resolution of 5 million pixels and benefit from user friendly features such as autofocus and an LED flash.
The Samsung Wave is certainly the phone to keep an eye on this summer. Whether you are looking for style, multimedia features or functionality, there is enough there to keep everybody happy and then some.
